Abstract
:
This study is aimed to define the relation between the caregiving stress, and the quality of life and depression in a sample of female caregivers in elderly homes in Jeddah, to recognize the differences between a sample of female caregivers and non-caregivers in elderly homes in the quality of life and depression, and to show the differences between the sample individuals in accordance to the elderly disorder in the caregiving stress, the quality of life and depression. The study sample included (120) female caregivers in elderly homes and (120) of non-caregivers females with an age average of (35) and standard deviation of (10.52). The study tools included; A preliminary data form for the caregiver, the caregiving stress scale, prepared by the researcher, the quality of life scale, prepared by Hisham Abdullah (2010) and Beck Depression Inventory, ranslated by Ahmed Abdulkhalek 1996)). The study has shown a negative correlation between the caregiving stress and the quality of life among the sample of female caregivers of the elderly, and a positive correlation between the caregiving stress and depression for the same sample. The study has identified no differences between the female caregivers and noncaregivers of the elderly regarding the quality of life and depression. There were no statistically significant differences in the caregiving stress in relation to the elders’ illness (physical illness – psychological illness) among the female caregivers, but there were differences in the quality of life of caregivers in relation to the elders’ illness (physical illness – psychological illness) among female caregivers for elders with physical illness, there were statistically significant differences in terms of depression among the female caregivers of the elderly in relation to the elders’ illness (physical illness – psychological illness) among female caregivers who cared for elders with psychological illness.
