Abstract
:
This research discusses private security guard role in stabilizing security during Abbasid era (132-334 A.H / 750-945 A.D) and highlights historical significance of the role played by Abbasid Caliphs to stabilize security. Getting rid of Umayyad remnants (132 A.H/ 750A.D), Abbasid began to seek help from some components loyal to them; whether Arabs or Persians, who contributed in the rise of State, as they helped in repelling risks and crushing religious and political countermovements existed in Abbasid era during period of the research. In addition, private guards played a central role in protecting Caliphs and supporting Caliphs position against his enemies from Abbasid family and participated in external wars, which unveiled its importance and influence through victories they achieved during Abbasid era. Moreover, they protected young Caliphs from destroying them and their caliphate. By virtue of critical roles played by private security guards over history, it is worth mentioning to define private security guards, how to select them, their components, training methods, clothes and houses and social position, and to name the most remarkable guards credited for that. Furthermore, the research aims at shedding light on certain guards employed by Caliphs from al-Mutawakkil ʿala Allah to al-Mustakfi bi-llah (232-334 A.H / 850-945 A.D). While guards were entrusted by Abbasid Caliph to guard certain persons, they formed, in Turkish-domination period, a troop surrounding caliph to protect him against Turkish Leaders then. They could protect Caliphs inside Abbasid Court insofar as their role was critical in conflicts flared up between Caliphs and palace women who lately intervened in Caliph and States affairs which undermine Caliphs dignity and State. Whatever the matter is, the critical historical guards role has been considered as the significant.
