Abstract
:
Employee selection is a broad term for the practices used by organizations to cull from the ready pool of job applicants those who demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other employee characteristics necessary to perform well on the job. Nearly half of the air traffic controllers in the Saudi Arabia will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 during the next five years, thus further aggravating an acute shortage of controllers across the country. About 537 controllers will have to retire by 2015 because in the 1987s it was decided that it's not safe to leave controllers on the job past that age due to the well established cognitive and physical declines associated with normal aging. But that's poor policy based on outdated information, according to a new study out of the Saudi Academy of Civil Aviation. They found that experience offsets the losses of aging, and, in fact, older controllers were at least as expert as their younger counterparts when it came to managing the most difficult situation. The goal of this study is to determine the selection criteria's for the air traffic controllers in order to reduce the turnover of the current staff for the next 5 years. The study deals with the selection criteria for the air traffic controller (ATC) using two methodologies: Analytical Hierarchy Process which known as (AHP), and Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process which known as (FAHP). Hence, the main criteria & the sub-criteria have been identified by designed survey which has been distributed to national & international instructors to provide us with the necessary information to build the Hierarchy Structure of the required criteria & sub-criteria of the (ATC). The chosen methodologies have been applied to check on the consistency of the criteria and the sub-criteria. Then, the priority of each individual criterion have been calculated & compared to verify the validity of the methodologies. Finally, the determination of the best candidates to fit the job of air traffic controller (ATC) has been studied and evaluated to recognize the minimum prerequisites to fill the position of an air traffic controller.
